Criminology (Criminologie)
Anul IV

The criminology course is intended for students in the fourth year of university education, cycle I, bachelor's degree. It encompasses several areas of study such as the etiology of crime, the phenomenology of crime and the prevention of crime. The etiology of committing crimes involves the analysis of genetic, biological, socio-cultural, social and economic factors. The phenomenology of crime involves the analysis of the operating mode of criminals and the anticipation of their behavior, the establishment of criminal trends (e.g. the increase in computer crime) through the observation of the state, dynamics and evolution of crime. Following the respective vectors of analysis is necessary for the development of an effective criminal policy to prevent and combat crimes, which involves the development of crime prevention strategies, the adaptation of legislation to social realities in order to effectively combat crimes, the improvement of criminal prosecution methods and the development of more effective combat strategies.

The characteristics of contemporary criminology reside in: interdisciplinarity; knowledge and application of advanced information technologies; empirical approach to criminological study (Current criminological studies are based on statistical data, case studies, analytical reports, etc.); focus on prevention - modern criminology emphasizes crime prevention through social, economic and educational policies; study of criminogenic phenomena with a global spread (human trafficking, arms trafficking, corruption, terrorism, organized economic and property crime, illegal migration, etc.).

Among the most important modern approaches to crime research are: digital criminology and cybercrime analysis; neurocriminology; biosocial criminology; predictive criminology and artificial intelligence in primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of crimes; ecological and spatial criminology in order to establish high-risk criminogenic areas and the geographical distribution of crime; gender-based crime analysis; criminological models of crime prevention aimed at restorative justice and the resocialization of the offender, international collaboration and legislative reform.
